INTRODUCTION

It is an ideal course for aspiring designers, fashion entrepreneurs looking to start up their own fashion brand, someone looking to pursue a career in fashion or just want to learn fashion as a hobby. Under the guidance of seasoned fashion designer you will be introduced to the fundamental techniques and skill required to become a fashion designer.

Every session will involve some activity and a brief. One session is dedicated Sfor market activity and research. A guest speaker session from a seasoned professional will also be conducted to have a firm footing in this course. At the end of the session the students will be given certificates and giveaways from the sponsors.

COMPREHENSIVE PLAN FOR THE CLASSES

Class 1

  • A brief introduction of all the students.
  • A brief on fashion design and scope
  • Hands on activity: students will name 10 designers they know and will write on piece of paper with in one minute. (A4 size coloured sheets will be provided by KSA)
  • Discussion on the importance of research.
  • A tour of KSA and inspirational work for reference and next assignment.
  • Students will be asked to join 20 local and 20 international designers on Instagram and will be asked to bring a sketch book along with a measuring tape.

Class 2

  • Students will be given a measuring form, they will be divided in to pairs and will measure each other’s garments and will note measurement in a given time span.
  • The results will be discussed, and the aesthetics will be shared with the class.
  • The designers which the students joined on Instagram will be questioned upon by the instructor; the session will take half an hour.

Class 3

  • The students will come across the concept of inspiration and will start coming up with ideas for research and development of their design.
  • Activity: the students will be given several prints by the instructors and the students will start developing their own thought process.
  • Students will be asked to bring butter paper from home.

Class 4

  • Students will be asked to continue their thought process and start building a motif.
  • Once they are done the instructor will divide them into groups and pairs and they will combine their motifs to form something new.
  • The concept of inspirational board will be developed among the students.

Class 5

  • The instructor will introduce her portfolio to build a broader perspective of design and students will comment on the portfolio and enjoy a discussion session.
  • A GUEST SPEAKER SESSION OF HALF AN HOUR.

Class 6

  • Students will be introduced with the aesthetics of design, the pros and cons of the design. The students will be given a task to construct their own design taking inspiration from the designers they joined. Basics of drawing will be introduced and practiced.

Class 7

  • Students will be taken to a market and they will start gathering all the relevant information asked by the instructor with in a given time frame. Students will then be told how to conduct research and purchase material.

Class 8

  • Students will be asked to roughly design a sketch of what they learned out of construction and inspiration.
  • Students will be given giveaways and certificates.
