Examination

1st year and 3rd year Exams are conduct by Karachi School of Art where as the Final Exams of 2nd year and 4th year are held under the supervision of Sindh Board of Technical Education. The Examination conducted by the institute (Karachi School of Art) will be qualifying examination for eligibility for the award of Certificate/Diploma; marks of these exam will however not be counted in examination of the board/institute examination of the board for grading. Student who doesn't appear in the board / institute examination for two academic years consecutively will not be eligible to appear in those examination anymore. Such cases will be decided ultimately by the Sindh Board of Technical Education authorities. A student will be declared successful if he / she secures pass marks in all subjects.

A student will be considered to have passed a theory subject, if he/she secures 40% marks in sessional and final examination separately. The passing marks in practical subject will be 50% in sessional work and final examination separately. Class work is assessed/evaluated daily/regularly, which finally determines the aggregate of sessional marks. This constitutes 50% of the total marks of any subject in the examination. In 1st year & 3rd year the students who fail in two or more than two subjects will not be promoted to the next class and will be given a chance to repeat the year (In case of 1st year the chance to repeat the year will be given after a test & interview held under supervision of Academic council). The exercise of objectionable conduct and the use of unfair means during an examination on the part of students shall render them, and are liable to punishment, to the extent of expulsion from the school.

An academic session consists of two terms, each concluded by a term examination the 1st term examination and the second/final term examination. In order to pass the examination, the student shall be required to obtain 40% marks in the theory part of each subject and 50% marks in the studio/practical parts of each subject. Certain subjects may have both studio & theory components. They will have a 40% pass percentage if theory component is dominant. No student shall be eligible to appear in the second Term Annual Examination if his / her total attendance fall short of 75% of the total lectures and studios session conducted during the academic session. Shortage in attendance on any account during the final year (prior to the commencement of the final project i.e. thesis project) shall disqualify final year student from undertaking his/her thesis project.
